Holiday Eyeglass Drive (January 2, 2008 - February 1, 2008)
We would like to thank everyone that donated eyeglasses to the Holiday Eyeglass Drive. The eyeglasses have been donated to Unite for Sight, a non profit organization who will bring them to Sierra Leone to be prescribed and given to those in need of glasses.
Importance Of Your Eyeglass Donation
*Over 1 billion people in developing countries need eyeglasses but cannot afford them.
*Over 4 million pairs of eyeglasses are thrown away each year in North America.
*25% of the global population needs eyeglasses.
*50% of children in institutions for the blind in Africa would be able to read normal or large print if they had eyeglasses
*The price for glasses in Benin and other African countries can exceed three months' average salary

Current Concepts Lecture Schedule
This is an interactive course where important concepts in ophthalmologic diseases and processes relevant to a ophthalmology practice will be discussed. Many well-recognized leaders in ophthalmology from universities such as Cornell, Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at University of Miami, Emory University, Harvard Medical School and Yale will be presenting at this event. This is a great opportunity for students interested in the field of ophthalmology. The Current Concepts lectures will be given at a measured pace which will make it easier for medical students to comprehend. In addition, you can speak with ophthalmologists if you have any additional questions after the lecture.

*The webpage has a list of registration fees but the organizers of the event have offered the Current Concepts Lecture free of charge for medical students. You can choose which lecture(s) you would like to attend.
SOL Health Fair (April 10, 2008) 4:30pm-6:30pm
The Ophthalmology Interest Group will be collaborating with SOL to do eye exams and glaucoma screenings. This is a great opportunity to work with an ophthalmologist and use some of their equipment to help diagnose vision problems. You can also volunteer to help with the diabetes or blood pressure screening at the event.
